Who Can Stay
Our shelter is open to women and their children who are experiencing domestic violence or are in an unsafe home situation.
Children are welcome. Male children are welcome up to the age of 17 when accompanied by their parent or guardian.
Pregnant women are welcome.
Service animals are welcome. Please bring your animal's documentation or licence when you arrive. We have a fenced yard on site, and we make every effort to keep animals with their owner. Types of service animals we have accommodated include guide dogs, hearing dogs, and bed-bug-sniffing dogs.
If you have a pet that is not a licensed service animal, please call us before arriving to discuss arrangements.
You do not need a referral. You do not need to have left before. You can call from anywhere.

How Long You Can Stay
Most stays are 5 to 7 days. This gives you time to get steady, assess your options, and connect with longer-term support.
We do not push you out unprepared. Before you leave, we work with you on what comes next. That might be transitional housing, outreach follow-up, connections to legal aid or income support, or another plan that fits your situation.
Our outreach team can continue to support you in the community after your stay.
How to Access Our Shelter
Call our crisis line: 780-827-1791. We answer 24 hours.
Do not come to the building without calling first. We do not have a walk-up intake. This is for your safety and the safety of everyone in the shelter.
When you call, a staff member will:
- Talk with you about your situation
- Make safe arrangements for you to arrive
- Meet you when you get here
If you cannot call safely, you can ask a trusted person to call on your behalf.
How We Keep Everyone Safe Together
Our guidelines exist to protect the privacy and safety of everyone in the house.
A few things to know:
- The location of the shelter is kept strictly confidential. Please do not share it.
- Visitors are not permitted inside the shelter.
- Smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas.
- Alcohol and non-prescribed drugs are not permitted on the property.
- Mealtimes and quiet hours are set to help everyone rest.
Your intake worker will walk you through everything when you arrive. There is no expectation that you memorise anything in advance.
What Comes Next
Leaving the shelter does not mean leaving our support. Our outreach team can stay connected with you in the community.
We can help you with:
- Finding transitional or longer-term housing
- Connecting with legal aid, income support, and family services
- Continuing counselling and advocacy
- Safety planning for your next steps
You do not have to figure out what comes next on your own.
