Prevention Is Part of Our Work

We believe the best way to reduce domestic violence in our community is to start early. Our school workshops give young people the knowledge and language to understand what healthy relationships look like, recognise when something is wrong, and know how to get help.

These programmes run September through June in Grande Cache schools, for students in grades 1 through 12.

Teen Dating Violence Prevention programming is a separate standalone programme available year-round. It is especially promoted during February (Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month) and is designed for teens roughly ages 13 to 19.

School Workshops: Grades 1 to 12

We deliver 11 different workshop programmes across all grade levels. Each workshop is age-appropriate and curriculum-connected. Topics across the programme series include friendship, emotional regulation, empathy, bullying prevention, and healthy relationships.

Workshops include discussions, video-based activities, and facilitated conversations. They are designed to be engaging, not frightening.

Workshop programmes include:

  • Amor del Bueno (high school): Explores a relationship that becomes abusive. Covers consent, recognising unhealthy patterns, communicating boundaries, and how to help a friend. Multiple lesson plans available.
  • Behind the Post (high school): Explores healthy and unhealthy relationships and the role social media plays. Covers privacy, healthy posting, and recognising digital control.
  • Couplets (middle and high school): Uses video scenarios to start conversations about belittling, isolation, guilting, and betrayal in relationships. Includes the My #LoveBetterPlan activity.
  • Door Three (high school): Focuses on how to help a friend in an unhealthy relationship. Covers financial boundaries, the complexity of helping, and healthy relationship signs.
  • Friendlets (elementary and middle school): 45-second animated videos on healthy and unhealthy behaviours in friendships. Multiple episodes covering conflict, possessiveness, trust, and independence.
  • Jun and Jayden (middle school): Two young men re-evaluate their friendship at the skatepark. Covers signs of unhealthy friendship and healthy behaviour.
  • Love Labyrinth (high school): Explores gaslighting, volatility, and feeling trapped. Covers the cycle of abuse, communication boundaries, and making a plan.
  • MVP (high school): Explores possessiveness and unhealthy patterns in a dating relationship. Covers the challenges of leaving and how a friend can help.
  • The Ghost Club (middle and high school): Three-episode series covering healthy and unhealthy behaviours in sibling, friend, and LGBTQ+ romantic relationships. Covers consent, values, and supporting LGBTQ+ friends.
  • The Halls II (high school): Three-part series across diverse relationships. Covers social media and relationships, sexual assault awareness, and healthy relationship tips.
  • Because I Love You / Escalation Workshop (high school): Explores how unhealthy behaviours escalate toward abuse. Teaches participants to recognise signs, intervene with friends, and seek help.

Teen Dating Violence Prevention

This programme focuses on recognising warning signs in dating relationships, understanding consent, and knowing where to get help. It is especially promoted in February for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
